HISTORY OF SABAH

Sabah's history can be traced back to about 23 to 30.000 years ago there is evidence of human settlements existed in the state. Sabah's history also includes the history of Brunei and Malaysian history before it was part of Brunei and now Malaysia. The earliest recorded history of Sabah when civilization began is in the 16th century during the era of the Sultanate of Brunei. Prior to this, early inhabitants live in tribal communities and tribes continue to exist until the 19th century. The eastern part of Sabah was presented to the Sultan of Sulu by the Sultan of Brunei Brunei for helping defeat the enemy. Until the end of the 19th century, both owned by the Sultan of Brunei and the Sultan of Sulu who eventually given to the British. Sabah became the auspices of the United Kingdom in 1888 and later became a crown colony until 1963, when it was known as North Borneo. On September 16, 1963, Sabah merged with Malaya, Singapore (left in 1965) to form the Federation of Malaysia.

Sabah is one of 13 states in Malaysia and is the second largest state in Malaysia selepasSarawak located in the north of the island of Borneo, the third largest island in the world. Despite the status as one of the states in Malaysia that is recognized internationally, the Philippines is very active lay claim to the eastern part of Sabah, Malaysia has rejected it as a "non-issue". Capital of Sabah is Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton . Sabah is often referred to as the "Land Below the Wind" because the position is very strategic country in the path of monsoon winds.
